The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, stated on Monday in Rabat that the government aims to achieve 1.7 billion cubic meters (m3) of desalinated water per year.

In response to an oral question about “strengthening food security in Morocco” posed by the Socialist group – Ittihadi Opposition, Mr. El Bouari emphasized that access to these resources is part of ongoing efforts to enhance food security through the “Green Generation” strategy.

Furthermore, there will be an enhancement of the upgrading of agricultural sectors through program contracts with professionals, as well as improvements in marketing conditions and the structuring of distribution chains, the minister added.

In this regard, Mr. El Bouari assured that markets have not experienced supply disruptions or shortages of food products, despite the low rainfall in recent years.

He also stated: “Morocco has been able, thanks to various agricultural plans, notably the Green Morocco Plan, to consolidate the foundations of food security.”
