The Government Council adopted, on Thursday, draft decree No. 2.24.920 establishing the National Commission for the Management of Nuclear, Radiological, Biological, and Chemical Risks. Presented by the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, this text aims to strengthen coordination among the various stakeholders involved in the safety and security of these sensitive areas.

    **A strengthened coordination framework**

The objective of this new commission is to centralize and harmonize the actions of the different institutions concerned with the management of risks related to nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical materials. According to Mustapha Baitas, the Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, this initiative will establish a cross-cutting approach involving all relevant departments.

**A national commission for better prevention and response to risks**

The adopted decree also provides for the establishment of a specific legal framework governing the missions and responsibilities of this commission. By creating a dedicated structure, the government intends to improve risk prevention and management, ensure better responsiveness in the event of a crisis, and strengthen national security against potential threats.

This initiative is part of a proactive approach aimed at aligning Morocco with international standards in risk management and effectively protecting the population and the environment against possible incidents in these highly sensitive areas.
