According to Mr. Al-Amri, president of the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly, the Kingdom “has considerable potential to successfully transition to wind and solar energy” and is working to become “a strategic platform for exporting clean energy to its neighbors, particularly Europe.”
“This leadership encourages many African and European countries to align with the efforts it is undertaking,” the Omani official noted in an interview with MAP-Brazil, seeing this direction as “a major green economic opportunity.”
For Mr. Al-Amri, “the balance in Morocco’s foreign policy, combined with its resolutely sustainable development vision, makes it a respected and admired country in the Arab world, Africa, and Europe,” expressing pride in the achievements made by the Kingdom in the economic, social, and environmental spheres.
Regarding bilateral cooperation, the president of the Oman Environmental Authority recalled the depth of relations between Rabat and Muscat at all levels.
“Morocco and the Sultanate of Oman represent the two wings of the Arab world: the East and the West,” he said. This natural closeness, he added, is reflected in constant coordination between the Oman Environmental Authority and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development in various international forums to contribute, on one hand, to global efforts to combat climate change and, on the other hand, to preserve stability and ensure the prosperity of both countries.
Speaking on the multilateral dimension, Mr. Al-Amri noted that Oman’s presidency of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEA-7), following that of Morocco, illustrates the complementarity between the two countries. “Morocco represented Africa, and Oman represented the Asia-Pacific: a wonderful coincidence that reflects the convergence of our visions,” he concluded.
