    Climate: EBRD considers a loan of 25 million euros to Crédit du Maroc

    The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) could provide a funding of €25 million to Crédit du Maroc to support private investments related to climate change adaptation and mitigation. The operation, currently at the preliminary review stage, falls within the framework of the GEFF+ (Green Economy Financing Facility).

    This comprehensive mechanism would amount to €65 million, including €40 million in the form of a MidGEFF loan, supplemented by a potential contribution from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) of €6.25 million. Additionally, the project would be accompanied by incentive grants and technical assistance funded by the European Union and the GCF, through the Moroccan Decarbonization and Climate Resilience Program (MDCR).

    If approved, the operation will enable Crédit du Maroc to refinance projects initiated by private companies aimed at energy transition, resource efficiency, and climate adaptation. Special attention will be given to the integration of gender considerations, with the goal of promoting equitable access for women and men to green financing.

    Identified under reference number 56695, the project illustrates the EBRD’s commitment to supporting Morocco in its low-carbon trajectory by mobilizing classic financing, concessional instruments, and technical assistance aimed at enhancing private sector resilience.
