On March 26 in Beijing, the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) held a technical workshop bringing together Chinese and Moroccan experts and representatives to explore synergies between electricity, hydrogen, and carbon. The event allowed for discussions on collaboration opportunities in the field of renewable energies and green hydrogen, a strategic sector for Morocco.
During the workshop, industrial and institutional stakeholders highlighted the complementarities between the energy ambitions of the two countries. China, with its industrial and technological capabilities, seeks to expand its cooperation with Morocco to develop decarbonized hydrogen. Morocco, with its solar and wind potential, aims to become a key player in the competitive production of green hydrogen and in international supply chains.
The discussions addressed major issues such as economic models to structure a competitive market, challenges related to the transport and storage of hydrogen, as well as the financial mechanisms necessary to support ongoing projects. Companies like Haitai Solar and the Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (MIRE) expressed their willingness to explore opportunities for technological exchanges and investments in infrastructure to deploy hydrogen and its derivatives.
