Organized by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE), this two-day initiative is part of the implementation of decrees n°1529.24 and n°2040.24 related to the establishment of minimum energy performance thresholds and the obligation of energy labeling for these appliances.
On this occasion, the president of the energy efficiency committee of the Moroccan Association of Cold Professionals, Tarik Slama, explained that these workshops focus on the energy labeling of air conditioners and refrigerators as well as the definition of minimum energy performance thresholds that these devices must now meet before being marketed in the Moroccan market.
In this context, Mr. Slama emphasized that this initiative aims to guide the final consumer in their purchasing choices, encouraging them to prioritize energy-efficient equipment.
“Through these actions, the goal is to contribute to the implementation of the national energy efficiency strategy and to promote more responsible consumption,” he noted.
These workshops aim to inform sector stakeholders about the regulatory requirements governing the marketing of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. They detail the provisions of the decrees, clarify compliance criteria, and raise participants’ awareness of the positive impact of MEPS on energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
The building sector, particularly cold-related uses, represents a significant share of national energy consumption. The implementation of energy performance standards thus constitutes an essential lever to support the transition to a sober and efficient energy model.
These workshops also provide an opportunity to promote good practices in importing, manufacturing, and distributing in compliance with regulations.
The content of the sessions revolves around several complementary axes, namely the presentation of adopted regulatory texts, the explanation of required performance levels according to equipment categories, the demonstration of compliance verification tools and reading of energy labels, as well as the analysis of economic and environmental impacts.
These workshops bring together experts from the ministry, AMEE, as well as representatives from professional associations, including the Moroccan Association of Cold Professionals (AMPF) and the Moroccan Association of Climate and Energy Engineering Professionals (AMPCE), and are enriched by testimonies, feedback, and technical discussions on the operational challenges related to the application of MEPS and mandatory energy labeling.
