The heads of state and government participating in the summit “For a Better Connected Mediterranean,” organized by France on the sidelines of the third United Nations Conference on the Ocean, launched several initiatives for shared and sustainable prosperity by improving maritime, land, and digital connectivity between Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Arabian Gulf.

In a joint statement following the summit attended on Monday in Nice by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, Representative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the participants announced strengthened bilateral and regional partnerships aimed at creating new land and maritime connections, decarbonizing ports, and deploying new underwater cables.

They also examined common goals to ensure the decarbonization of the maritime sector and major ports in the Mediterranean, the consolidation of maritime and land routes for the transport of goods and the delivery of green energy, and the development of digital connections between the Mediterranean and the Arabian Gulf.

The Mediterranean Sea, the same source recalls, accounts for 25% of global maritime traffic and is at the heart of exchanges in the sectors of trade, energy, and digital technology.

The summit “For a Better Connected Mediterranean” also brought together representatives from international organizations, development banks, and large companies.
