Recent logging operations in the Maâmora forest have sparked intense emotions among environmental advocates and local residents. Several dozen trees have reportedly been cut down in various plots of this emblematic massif, considered the largest cork oak forest in Morocco and one of the main green lungs of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region. According to local sources cited by Assabah, these interventions are part of efforts to improve forestry roads and manage wooded areas. However, the lack of official communication detailing the exact extent of the logging and its specific objectives has quickly raised questions. How many trees have been felled? What…
The Moroccan green economy is gradually establishing itself as a structural pillar of the job market. According to a national assessment published by the High Commission for Planning, 336,000 direct jobs were recorded in 2022 in the main sectors related to ecological transition. By 2030, this number could exceed 500,000 positions if investment trajectories and sectoral objectives are maintained. However, behind these promising figures, the report paints a nuanced picture. The expansion of green sectors is accompanied by territorial imbalances, a still significant weight of informality in certain branches, and, above all, a concerning deficit in qualified skills. The scope…
The production of electric energy at the national level closed the year 2025 with an acceleration in its growth, registering a 5% increase, compared to a 3% improvement the previous year, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF). This increase is attributed to the consolidation of private electricity production (+7%), production from the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) (+4.2%), and, to a lesser extent, the increase in contributions from national third parties by 50.9%, the DEPF explains in its recent economic note. Regarding net energy demand, growth rose from +3.9% at the end of…
Household waste management is entering a new phase. After years dominated by collection and landfill, the government and local authorities are initiating a structural transformation of the national model, with a clear goal: to shift from a disposal logic to a value-added approach. While the state ensures strategic guidance and technical support, operational responsibility lies with municipalities, in accordance with the organic law governing local authorities. These municipalities are responsible for creating, managing, and overseeing facilities dedicated to waste collection and treatment, as well as managing landfills. The national waste management program, implemented from 2008 to 2022, has led to…
As the transition to electric mobility accelerates in various regions around the world, the Moroccan market is progressing at a measured pace. Despite an increasingly diverse automotive supply, hybrid and fully electric vehicles are still struggling to establish a lasting presence. Showrooms, however, have undergone transformation. The range of vehicles has expanded, particularly driven by the massive influx of Chinese manufacturers, now represented among most distributors. These brands offer well-equipped models that are technologically advanced and priced more competitively than in the past. On paper, all the ingredients seem in place to stimulate demand. In reality, however, clean cars remain…
The rise of digital usage—cloud computing, artificial intelligence, streaming, edge computing—has been accompanied by a rapid expansion of the infrastructures that make these technologies possible: data centers. Today, there are estimated to be over 11,000 worldwide, with an annual growth rate of nearly 15%. Behind this dynamic lies an environmental issue that has received little media attention: their massive water consumption. Every online request, every video viewed, or algorithmic processing mobilizes servers that generate significant heat. To prevent any failures, these devices must be continuously cooled, which requires substantial water usage. According to a study published in the journal Nature,…

Morocco ranks among the top African beneficiaries of investments from the European Investment Bank (EIB) group deployed in 2025. This is highlighted in the activity report published by the institution, which emphasizes the strategic role of the Kingdom within its African portfolio. In 2025, the EIB group mobilized over €9 billion globally through EIB Global, its branch dedicated to international partnerships and development financing. Of this total, €3.1 billion was allocated to the African continent, accounting for nearly a third of global commitments. In Morocco, funding primarily targeted structural projects related to water and post-earthquake reconstruction. The EIB contributed to…
