Morocco is hosting a major scientific meeting on sustainable agricultural soil management. From March 23 to 27, 2026, the city of Meknès will be the venue for the annual meeting of the European project Soil O-Live, dedicated to improving practices in olive groves.

After several editions held in Europe, this fourth meeting takes place for the first time in Morocco, confirming the Kingdom’s growing role in agricultural initiatives across the Mediterranean.

    ### An International Project Focused on Sustainability

Coordinated by the University of Jaén in Spain, the Soil O-Live project brings together a consortium of partners from various Mediterranean countries, including universities, research centers, and specialized institutions.

The aim is to develop innovative solutions to improve the quality of olive grove soils, enhance their sustainability, and optimize agricultural practices in the context of increasing environmental pressure.

    ### Meknès: A Hub for Exchange and Experimentation

The meeting will gather researchers, experts, and decision-makers around technical sessions and coordination work. It aims to review the scientific advancements of the project and outline the next steps.

In addition to theoretical discussions, field visits are organized to local farms in the Meknès region, allowing participants to concretely observe ongoing practices and experiments.

    ### Strengthened Mediterranean Cooperation

Choosing Morocco as the host for this meeting aligns with a strengthened cooperation framework among Mediterranean countries, where olive cultivation represents a significant economic and environmental concern.

This gathering illustrates the commitment to pooling expertise and sharing best practices to address challenges related to soil degradation and climate change.

    ### Towards More Resilient Agriculture

Through such initiatives, project partners aim to contribute to more sustainable and resilient agriculture by integrating scientific innovations into field practices.

For Morocco, hosting this event reaffirms its positioning within international dynamics related to agriculture and natural resource management.
