The Gabonese President, General Oligui Nguema, unveiled a series of emergency energy measures aimed at strengthening the production and distribution capacities of electricity in the country.
“We inherit a fragile system where infrastructures operate at full capacity, but I remain determined to improve access to electricity for all Gabonese,” said General Oligui Nguema in a message posted on his social media on Wednesday.
The Gabonese president announced concrete and immediate measures to address the energy emergency. Thus, two new generators of different capacities have been acquired: one of 1,500 megawatts and the other of 800 megawatts, representing a significant investment in the country’s energy infrastructure.
In addition to these acquisitions, an agreement was reached with a foreign operator for a short-term solution. “An agreement has been reached to provide 70 megawatts to Libreville within 5 days, and at a reduced cost,” President Nguema indicated, emphasizing the desire to find economically responsible solutions.
According to the Gabonese Press Agency AGP, the acquisition of these new generators and the agreement with this operator came after the audience that the Head of State granted to the Minister of Energy and Hydraulic Resources, Séraphin Akure Davain, who was accompanied by sector stakeholders.
During this meeting, General Oligui Nguema “gave instructions for sustainable and reliable solutions to be found in order to overcome the energy crisis that the country is facing, which has led to power outages,” according to the same source.
