Agadir takes a decisive step towards a more sustainable future by officially launching its **Green City Action Plan**, in partnership with the **European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)**. This project, the result of **two years of preparation**, aims to address the environmental challenges of the city through investments in **energy, transportation, water, and waste management**.

    ### A Structuring Project for a Greener City
Since its membership in **2022**, Agadir has become **the first Moroccan city** to join the EBRD’s **Green Cities** program, thus joining a network of over **50 cities committed to ecological transition**.

The **Green Cities Action Plan (GCAP)** is based on concrete actions aimed at:

    – **Reducing energy consumption** and greenhouse gas emissions.
    – **Developing more sustainable transportation** and better infrastructure management.
    – **Optimizing water resource use** and improving waste treatment.

    ### Significant Financial and Technical Support
The EBRD is providing **financial support** to the city by subscribing **400 million dirhams** to a municipal bond issuance to finance infrastructure under the **Urban Development Plan (UDP) 2020-2024**. It has also allocated **technical assistance of one million euros** to optimize Agadir’s administrative and budgetary management.

This assistance is part of the **Green Cities** program, with **additional funding from the Netherlands** through the Partnership for a Strong Impact on Climate Action (HIPCA), ensuring effective implementation of the GCAP.

    ### A Roadmap in Six Steps
The development of the GCAP took place in **six essential steps**:

    1. **Assessment of the environmental situation** to identify priorities.
    2. **Definition of concrete objectives** to guide actions.
    3. **Design of a structured plan**, integrating measures for energy, transportation, and waste management.
    4. **Assessment of costs** and necessary resources.
    5. **Establishment of a precise execution timeline**.
    6. **Monitoring and evaluation** of results to adjust strategies if needed.

With this ambitious plan, **Agadir positions itself as a model of sustainable development**, affirming its commitment to a greener and more resilient city in the face of climate challenges.
