A ceremony presided over in the province of Totonicapán by the Moroccan ambassador to Guatemala, Tarik Louajri, and the Guatemalan Minister of Agriculture, Maynor Estrada, marked the first phase of distributing this donation of 200 tons of fertilizers.

Approximately 10,000 families, spread across seven Guatemalan provinces, will benefit from this donation, according to a statement from the Moroccan diplomatic mission in Guatemala City.

On this occasion, the Guatemalan Minister of Agriculture asked Mr. Louajri to convey to His Majesty King Mohammed VI the gratitude and sincere thanks of the President of the Republic and the Guatemalan people for this kind and generous gesture.

Mr. Estrada also expressed his deep appreciation for this donation, which supports his department’s efforts in rural development and aids in implementing the government’s plan to reduce poverty and malnutrition in certain regions of the country.

For her part, the governor of Totonicapan, Delfina Garcia, expressed her appreciation for the donation granted by Morocco, which will benefit the residents and farmers of her region, who heavily rely on subsistence agriculture.

The official emphasized that this generous initiative will help reduce the isolation of the province and provide strong support to the government’s efforts to improve production and achieve self-sufficiency.

For his part, the Moroccan ambassador expressed his happiness to participate in this event, which highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening its cooperation with the Guatemalan government in all areas, particularly in agriculture and the fight against poverty and malnutrition.

Mr. Louajri emphasized that this donation reflects Morocco’s commitment to food security, advocated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as well as to South-South cooperation, which is a strategic lever of the Kingdom’s foreign policy.

He also reiterated Morocco’s readiness to continue working closely with President Bernardo Arevalo and his government for the progress and prosperity of the friendly Guatemalan people.

High officials from the Guatemalan Ministry of Agriculture, as well as deputies and representatives of the local population, also participated in this ceremony.
