Morocco and South Korea are strengthening their cooperation in renewable energy with the completion of the SMMMART project (Smart Multi Microgrid for Morocco & Africa Rural Territories). The announcement was made during a ceremony at the R&D platform of the Noor Ouarzazate solar complex, followed by a site visit to the microgrids deployed in Ouarzazate and Taroudant.

Led by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the project illustrates the commitment of both countries to inclusive electrification of rural areas, providing local communities with access to modern and sustainable energy systems.

    ### International Cooperation for Territorial Development

The ceremony brought together representatives from the Korean embassy, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, local authorities, as well as institutional partners such as ONEE, SRM Souss Massa, SRM Drâa Tafilalt, and SDL Ouarzazate Aménagement. Several international industrial players, including Huawei, JA Solar, Jinko Solar, and LONGi Solar, were also present, highlighting the technological and collaborative dimension of the project.

Through SMMMART, MASEN confirms its strategy for sustainable and innovative energy solutions, supported by the Korean government and its industrial partners. The project contributes not only to national energy transition but also to the inclusive development of rural territories, positioning microgrids as a concrete lever for progress for local communities.
