From Addis Ababa, Morocco has made a strong call for the food sovereignty of the African continent. During the second review of the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4), Agriculture Minister Ahmed El Bouari advocated for the establishment of an International Fund dedicated to food security in Africa.
According to the minister, this fund would be a crucial lever to unlock the agricultural potential of the continent, ensure equitable access to healthy food, and address growing challenges such as climate change, dwindling natural resources, and biodiversity loss.
Morocco has positioned itself as a committed player, citing its “Green Generation 2020–2030” strategy focused on sustainable agriculture, water resilience, and the transformation of food systems. Mr. El Bouari also emphasized the importance of a systemic, inclusive, and collaborative approach, mobilizing both local knowledge and responsible financing.
In a global context marked by urgent food transitions, this Moroccan proposal aims to structure a coordinated, solidarity-driven, and action-oriented African response. This initiative fully aligns with the royal vision of active South-South cooperation and initiatives such as the “African Adaptation of Agriculture Initiative” and “S3A: Sustainability, Stability, Security in Africa.”
