As part of its global program L’Oréal for the Future, L’Oréal Morocco takes a new step in sustainable development by obtaining the prestigious LEED Platinum certification for its headquarters in Casablanca. Coupled with the already established HQE Gold certification, this distinction underscores the group’s commitment to fully integrating sustainability principles into its operations.

A global vision, a local commitment

The L’Oréal for the Future program defines the group’s environmental responsibility strategy through three axes: respecting planetary boundaries, transforming its activities, and mobilizing its ecosystem.

In Morocco, L’Oréal has surrounded itself with experts such as Colliers, specialized in commercial real estate, and ALTO EKO, specialists in energy and environment, to optimize its project in compliance with LEED standards. The achievement of the LEED Platinum certification for its offices illustrates the concrete implementation of this strategy.

This milestone also marks a turning point for L’Oréal Morocco, which has relocated for the first time in 80 years of presence in the Moroccan market. The establishment in the Casablanca Finance City (CFC) area was favored for its compliance with the company’s environmental requirements.

    An integrated sustainable approach

The acquisition of the LEED Platinum certification is based on several key criteria:

    • Sustainable mobility: the location in the heart of CFC promotes access by public transport, thus reducing the carbon footprint of commuting.
    • Optimized water management: the premises are equipped with low-flow fixtures and smart irrigation systems.
    • Renewable energy: the electricity used comes from 100% renewable sources, notably thanks to solar panels.
    • Eco-responsible materials: choice of recyclable coatings and equipment, such as carpets made from recycled materials.
    • Responsible construction: implementation of eco-friendly practices throughout the project.

    Unanimous recognition

Laila Benjelloun, Managing Director of L’Oréal Morocco, emphasizes:

“Obtaining the LEED Platinum certification is a tremendous pride for our teams. It reflects our commitment to innovate and collaborate for a more sustainable future. At L’Oréal Morocco, we are convinced that beauty and responsibility go hand in hand, and we will continue our efforts in this direction.”

Driss Nokta, CEO of Walili Street, emphasizes the quality of the project:

“We are pleased to have contributed to this exemplary achievement that meets the highest environmental standards. The combination of the HQE Gold and LEED Platinum certifications illustrates the excellence of Casablanca Finance City in sustainable construction.”

Ibtissam Ghazzar, project manager at ALTO EKO, praises L’Oréal Morocco’s performance:

“The score obtained for the LEED Platinum certification is the highest observed in Morocco for a project of this magnitude. It rewards L’Oréal’s significant efforts towards sustainable design and operation.”

Kenza Bennani, Managing Director of Colliers, highlights the project’s impact:

“The demand for sustainable workspaces continues to grow. With this certification, L’Oréal Morocco proves that it is possible to combine environmental excellence and economic performance.”

A long-term commitment to responsible beauty

L’Oréal Morocco places this approach within a broader vision of sustainability, integrated into all its operations: product design, packaging, logistics, and mobility.

    Some key initiatives:

    • Eco-designed products: formulas and packaging with reduced impact, such as the after-sun tube Anthelios from La Roche-Posay, made from recycled cardboard.
    • Reduction of packaging: introduction of refills for the group’s luxury perfumes, such as Libre and Myself from Yves Saint Laurent, La Vie est Belle from Lancôme, and Acqua di Gio from Giorgio Armani Beauty. This approach also extends to hair and dermatological care with Kérastase, Dercos, and Effaclar from La Roche-Posay.
    • Sustainable logistics and mobility: complete conversion of the vehicle fleet to 100% hybrid since 2023 and drastic reduction of air freight since 2019.

While obtaining the LEED Platinum certification represents a major advancement, L’Oréal Morocco does not stop there. The company continues to innovate and invest for an increasingly responsible cosmetics industry, in line with the environmental and societal demands of tomorrow.
