H2 Global Energy announced this week that it has completed preliminary studies for the construction of a green hydrogen and ammonia plant in Morocco. With a planned annual production capacity of one million tons of green ammonia, this initiative aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a regional energy hub and a key player in the ecological transition.

During a series of meetings in Rabat with Moroccan authorities, company representatives discussed the regulatory framework, necessary investments, and partnership opportunities. These discussions highlighted Morocco’s strong commitment to the development of renewable energies and its ambition to become a leader in green hydrogen production.

For Waleed Al Hallaj, commercial director of H2 Global Energy, the establishment of this plant marks a major advancement in the Kingdom’s energy strategy. “This project not only contributes to Morocco’s sustainable development goals, but it will also stimulate economic growth and job creation,” he emphasizes. “We are convinced that this infrastructure will play a decisive role in the energy transition and strengthen Morocco’s position on the global stage.”

The plant will harness the country’s solar and wind potential to produce green hydrogen, which will then be converted into green ammonia. The latter can be used in various sectors, including agriculture, transport, and energy storage, thus contributing to international decarbonization efforts.

H2 Global Energy reaffirms its commitment to collaborating with local and international partners to successfully carry out this project. The completion of the preliminary studies represents a key milestone, while the next phases will focus on finalizing financing and detailed engineering before the start of construction.

The rise of green hydrogen in Morocco is part of a broader dynamic of energy transition on the African continent. With its favorable climate and vast renewable energy resources, the Kingdom has considerable advantages to become a key supplier of green hydrogen and green ammonia for Europe, which is seeking to diversify its energy supply sources and reduce its carbon footprint.

This project once again illustrates Morocco’s ambition to establish itself as a major player in clean energy on the international stage.
