During COP29, Mohammed Fares, president of the African Greens Federation (FEVA), emphasized the urgency of rethinking consumption patterns to address global climate challenges.

    ### A Critique of Current Practices

In a statement made on the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Fares warned against the disastrous consequences of the excessive exploitation of natural resources, a phenomenon that intensifies the overexploitation of ecosystems and increases the carbon footprint. According to him, a **paradigm shift** is now essential to establish a sustainable balance between economic development and environmental preservation.

    ### Towards an Ecological Culture

FEVA advocates for a genuine cultural transformation in Africa and beyond. The goal? To promote a **global ecological culture**, focused on sustainable development and responsible management of limited resources.

“We must reinvent our lifestyles and consumption habits,” said Mr. Fares. This includes nature-friendly practices, such as better water management and a significant reduction in waste. He stressed the role that each individual can play in preserving the environment by adopting responsible behaviors.

    ### Concrete Initiatives

To raise awareness and mobilize populations, FEVA uses various means: **webinars, conferences, publications, and media campaigns**. These actions aim to mitigate the effects of climate change, particularly for developing countries, which are often the most exposed to environmental risks.

Mr. Fares also advocated for increased support for climate adaptation projects in vulnerable regions. He urged international organizations to invest heavily in initiatives that reduce the vulnerability of populations to the growing impacts of climate change.

    ### A Call for Climate Financing

COP29, which takes place from November 11 to 22, places particular importance on climate financing. This is essential to help countries reduce their greenhouse gas emissions while protecting the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable communities.

With this call for collective awareness, Mohammed Fares reaffirms that the future of the planet relies on concrete actions and international solidarity, focused on building a sustainable and environmentally respectful economy.
