The National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) organized a training and awareness program on the rational use of water and its preservation on Wednesday in Salé, on the occasion of World Water Day 2025.
This initiative, launched in partnership with the Hassan II International Center for Environmental Training, part of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, is part of the “Eco-Schools” and “Young Reporters for the Environment” programs, aimed at promoting ecological awareness and encouraging responsible water consumption behaviors.
The event, initiated within a school labeled “Eco-School,” is part of an expanded national program covering the 12 regions of the Kingdom, with three visits planned per region, in order to instill a culture of sustainable water consumption and enhance environmental awareness among young people nationwide.
In this context, a visit to the water treatment station of the Bouregreg Complex was organized for students from ecological schools.
On this occasion, explanations were provided to them about the water treatment and purification mechanisms as well as the techniques used to ensure quality and safety, with the aim of enabling students to acquire knowledge about the various stages of the applied water treatment process, from pre-chlorination to disinfection.
Furthermore, students had the opportunity to visit the Water Museum, a space designed to highlight water culture, particularly by promoting the discovery of different traditional water systems used by ancient civilizations.
In a statement to MAP, the youth awareness officer at ONEE, Fatima Zahra Ammor, emphasized that this initiative aims to provide an overview of the efforts made by the Office in the preservation of water resources and the control of their quality.
“This initiative reflects the pivotal role of ONEE in securing drinking water supply, controlling its quality, and protecting the environment,” she noted, adding that through the celebration of World Water Day, the Office contributes to strengthening the culture of sustainable water consumption.
Moreover, Ms. Ammor indicated that this day was rich in awareness workshops on the importance of preserving water resources and visits to ONEE facilities, including the Bouregreg water treatment station.
The students participating in this training and awareness program expressed their happiness to be able to take part in the activities organized in commemoration of World Water Day.
This year, themed “The Preservation of Glaciers,” the day aims to highlight the importance of rationalizing the consumption of water resources and raising awareness of the need for their protection against the backdrop of climate change and growing environmental challenges.
