The transition to sustainable mobility is reaching a new milestone in Morocco. Gathered in Rabat, the Minister of Energy Transition, Leila Benali, and her counterpart in Transport, Abdessamad Kayouh, have initiated a strategic dialogue to strengthen the convergence between their departments. The goal: to further integrate clean energies into transport systems and develop industrial chains related to decarbonization.
At the heart of the discussions: the promotion of “green molecules” — hydrogen, ammonia, and their derivatives — as energy alternatives for road, maritime, and air transport. This direction is part of a national vision for the gradual decarbonization of mobility, through the modernization of infrastructure and a rethinking of the energy sources used.
The two ministers also identified the industrial opportunities offered by the energy transition. Batteries, cables, solar panels, and wind turbines are among the strategic sectors where investment needs to be stimulated, with a dual objective: to establish the Kingdom’s industrial sovereignty and enhance its export capacities in green sectors.
Finally, the ministries agreed to establish strengthened sectoral coordination mechanisms to ensure a coherent, effective, and sustainable implementation of joint projects.
This meeting marks an important step towards the establishment of an integrated transport-energy policy, in line with Morocco’s ambitions to become a major regional player in the green economy.
