The green hydrogen sector is expected to generate around 300,000 direct jobs by 2030, which represents 10% of the Kingdom’s employment needs, said Younes Sekkouri, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, on Tuesday in Marrakech.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the opening of the 4th edition of the “World Power-to-X Summit,” Mr. Sekkouri emphasized that the development of the green hydrogen sector and renewable energies, in general, is a major lever for the national economy, specifying that this sector is not only promising in terms of direct job creation but also offers strong potential to generate indirect and induced jobs.

The minister also highlighted the crucial role of investors in this process, explaining that investments are essential to achieve these ambitious job creation goals.

“The government is fully committed to supporting this dynamic, particularly by making one million hectares of land available for projects in this sector,” he recalled, noting that strategic partnerships with private actors will also be encouraged to maximize the impact of these investments.

Mr. Sekkouri also mentioned the new roadmap, which will be integrated into the next finance law and will introduce specific measures aimed at promoting employment in the green hydrogen sector, explaining that these measures will include tax incentives, direct subsidies, and initiatives to encourage innovation and research in this field.

“Adapting the training supply is also a priority to ensure a skilled workforce,” he stressed, noting that three high-level specialized training institutes are already operational in Oujda, Ouarzazate, and Tangier to provide training for technicians and engineers in the field of renewable energies, particularly solar, wind, and energy efficiency.

The minister concluded by reiterating the Kingdom’s commitment to positioning itself as a key player in the global energy transition by attracting investments and training a skilled workforce to support the development of green hydrogen and renewable energies.
