The Green Energy Park Morocco–Côte d’Ivoire (GEP-MCI) was officially inaugurated on February 13, 2026, in Yamoussoukro, within the National Polytechnic Institute Houphouët-Boigny (INP-HB). Driven by the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN), Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), and the Green Energy Park Morocco, this new platform marks a significant milestone in South-South scientific and technological cooperation between Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire.

The ceremony was attended by the Ivorian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, representatives from the Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, as well as officials from partner institutions and academic and economic stakeholders. Located in a semi-tropical environment, the platform is dedicated to applied research, technological innovation, and training in photovoltaic and thermal solar energy, along with their applications in agriculture and water treatment.

The GEP-MCI builds on the Green Energy Park in Benguerir, which was inaugurated in 2017 in Morocco and has become an African reference point for collaborative research and the sharing of innovation infrastructures. It represents the first step in replicating this model on a continental scale, aiming to extend research and development activities to new climate contexts and validate technological solutions suited to African realities.

Designed as a complement to the Moroccan site, the Ivorian platform will serve as a framework for experimentation and demonstration for pilot projects arising from calls for proposals funded by IRESEN and led by Moroccan universities and companies. It also aims to promote skills transfer, the creation of startups, and the industrial valorization of research outcomes, thereby contributing to the structuring of resilient innovation ecosystems.

Through this initiative, partners aim to realize a pan-African vision of scientific cooperation based on networking skills and the development of solutions designed and deployed in Africa. The GEP-MCI therefore aspires to enhance local capacities, support the continent’s energy transition, and foster the emergence of African technological sovereignty in renewable energy.
