The development of effective meteorological and climate services capable of anticipating risks and protecting populations relies on an integrated and inclusive approach, said Nizar Baraka, the Minister of Equipment and Water, on Monday in Rabat.

In a speech at the closing of the National Day of Meteorological and Climate Services held under the theme “Climate Services and Early Warnings: Towards Strengthening Resilience,” Mr. Baraka emphasized that in a context marked by increasing climate challenges, it is imperative to place users at the heart of the process, involving them from the design of the tools.

This co-construction logic is key to ensuring the relevance, ownership, and concrete usefulness of the deployed services, particularly in sensitive sectors such as water management, agriculture, health, infrastructure, and land use planning, he explained.

Mr. Baraka also highlighted the importance of leveraging innovative technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), satellite systems, and digital platforms, to contribute to improving the accuracy, speed, and accessibility of forecasts, calling for strengthened synergies between institutions to ensure better integration of early warning services and climate services into public policies.

Furthermore, the minister noted that the State Climate Network, as a strategic national infrastructure, constitutes a fundamental pillar for ensuring continuous observation, data quality, and the reliability of the services produced, which are essential conditions for informed and effective decision-making.

This day, which saw the participation of political decision-makers, technical and scientific experts, as well as socio-economic partners, was an opportunity to highlight the role of emerging technologies, AI, and digital transformation in improving the accuracy, reliability, and accessibility of climate services.

The National Day of Meteorological and Climate Services, celebrated on May 5, aims to showcase Morocco’s commitment to a proactive approach to climate risks while promoting enhanced collaboration at all levels to address the challenges posed by climate change.
