The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen) recently launched an ambitious solar power plant project in the Errachidia region, as part of Morocco’s national energy transition strategy. This project aims to strengthen the production of clean electricity and promote the use of renewable energies in the country.
Project Details
The solar power plant project covers an area of 131 hectares, utilizing communal lands from the Ksar Boudnib and Ksar Taouss communities in the Oued Naâm municipality. These lands, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Interior, take advantage of the region’s strong sunlight to ensure optimal energy production.
Government Authorization and Commitment
The official decree authorizing the construction of the plant was signed on May 14 by Aziz Akhannouch, Head of Government, and Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development. This signature marks a crucial step in the realization of the project, demonstrating Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development and energy transition.
Appointment of the New Director of Masen
Meanwhile, Tarik Moufaddal has been appointed as the new director of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. With extensive experience in the energy sector, Tarik Moufaddal is expected to play a key role in implementing the agency’s strategic projects and driving innovation in the renewable energy sector.
The launch of this solar power plant in Errachidia represents a significant step towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for Morocco. This project, supported by concrete government actions and expert leadership, fits into the kingdom’s overall vision to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and effectively combat climate change.
