Morocco and the Principality of Monaco are strengthening their alliance for the defense of marine ecosystems, as part of a strategic partnership in sustainable development. On the occasion of a preparatory workshop for the **Blue Economy and Finance Forum (BEFF)**, scheduled for June 7 and 8, **Robert Calcagno**, General Director of the Oceanographic Institute – Albert I, Prince of Monaco Foundation, praised the convergence of visions between **His Majesty King Mohammed VI** and **Prince Albert II** regarding ocean protection.
This active partnership is particularly illustrated through **collaboration with the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment** and joint projects focused on **marine protected areas**. Enhanced cooperation is approaching the **United Nations Ocean Conference**, set to take place from June 9 to 13 in Nice, which aims to mobilize collective action for the Mediterranean.
Robert Calcagno specified that the BEFF will bring together the majority of Mediterranean countries and serve as a platform to **mobilize funding** for the benefit of the southern shore, facing major ecological challenges. The goal is to create **concrete partnerships** and attract investments to develop a **sustainable blue economy**, combining private resources, public funding, and multilateral support.
The Oceanographic Institute also emphasizes concrete actions, such as **wastewater treatment**, which it considers a priority for the region. It expresses readiness to collaborate with other institutions to **disseminate the immersive exhibition “Mediterranean 2050,”** a awareness tool launched last March, designed to raise consciousness about environmental issues in the Mediterranean basin.
The **Blue Economy and Finance Forum** is set to be a key milestone in scaling sustainable solutions, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders – decision-makers, NGOs, researchers, investors – around **concrete projects and structural funding** for the Mediterranean of tomorrow.
