Morocco and France are accelerating their energy cooperation with a strategic electricity interconnection project. On April 2, 2025, the Minister of Energy Transition, Leila Benali, led a videoconference meeting dedicated to the progress of the technical and economic studies of this major project, aimed at strengthening energy security and promoting the integration of the networks of both countries.
This meeting marks a new step in the bilateral partnership, particularly since the strategic agreement signed on October 28, 2024, in the presence of King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron. Under the theme “Connecting the energy transition between Morocco and France,” the initiative aims to consolidate a structured cooperation framework around renewable energies, low-carbon hydrogen transport, energy storage, and the exchange of green molecules.
The discussions particularly focused on the mechanisms for coordination and sharing technical data, deemed essential for the successful execution of the project. Participants emphasized the need for ongoing dialogue between the various Moroccan and French stakeholders to ensure smooth and transparent implementation.
In addition to Minister Benali, the meeting brought together prominent figures such as Gérard Mistralih, special envoy of the French president, Xavier Piechaczyk, CEO of the Electricity Transmission Network (RTE), as well as representatives from ONEE, the MASEN Agency, and the French Embassy in Rabat.
This ambitious cooperation confirms the willingness of both countries to establish themselves as regional leaders in the energy transition, in an increasingly decarbonized and energy sovereign global context.
