A recent report from the **Specialized Energy Platform**, based in Washington, highlights the most ambitious energy projects in Africa for 2025, with Morocco among the top ten countries leading renewable energy development on the continent.
According to this study, Africa is expected to exceed a **capacity of 320 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030**, thereby consolidating its position as a global leader in the field. The report cites three Arab countries, including **Morocco, Egypt, and Tunisia**, alongside other African nations such as South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria, which play a key role in this energy transition.
**A strategic renewable potential for Morocco**
Thanks to its exceptional sunshine and considerable wind potential, particularly in the Saharan regions, Morocco has established itself as a major player in the energy transition in Africa. The country is focusing on flagship projects such as:
– **The Noor solar complex in Ouarzazate**, one of the largest in the world,
– **The Tarfaya wind farms**, producing clean energy on a large scale,
– **The Xlinks project**, aimed at exporting green electricity to the United Kingdom via underwater cables.
**A strong commitment to a sustainable transition**
Morocco’s efforts in the renewable energy sector are part of an ambitious strategy aiming to cover **52% of its energy mix from renewable sources by 2030**, in line with the sustainable development goals set by the country. This commitment not only reduces dependence on fossil fuels but also positions Morocco as a **regional energy hub**, capable of supplying green electricity to Europe and sub-Saharan Africa.
**Other African leaders in green energy**
In addition to Morocco, other African countries are accelerating their investments in the renewable energy sector:
1. **South Africa** – development of large-scale wind and solar farms,
2. **Egypt** – Benban solar project, one of the largest in the world,
3. **Kenya** – expanding geothermal and solar energy production,
4. **Nigeria** – investment in solar energy to reduce its dependence on oil.
**Towards a greener and more resilient Africa**
The report emphasizes that the acceleration of these projects could enable Africa to meet energy challenges while actively contributing to the fight against climate change. With a growing mobilization of international investments and strategic partnerships, the African continent is on track to become a key player in the renewable energy sector in the coming years.
