Morocco positions itself as one of the most competitive countries in the field of renewable energy, said the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, in an interview with “Bloomberg TV,” on the sidelines of the 61st Munich Security Conference (MSC-2025).
“We are witnessing a reconfiguration of value chains where the most competitive players are emerging. I am convinced that Morocco is among the highly competitive countries capable of establishing itself in the global renewable energy market,” said Ms. Benali, who spoke during the “Horizons Middle East and Africa” program of the renowned American media.
When asked in a live interview about the future of global investments in renewable energy, Ms. Benali emphasized the need for a structured plan to finance the energy transition, highlighting that the competitiveness of emerging players now depends on their ability to adapt to the new value chains of green energy.
In this regard, the minister highlighted Morocco’s experience in the development of renewable energies (15 years of experience) and attracting private investments (over 30 years), levers that have significantly contributed to the growth of the sector and the modernization of energy infrastructure in the Kingdom.
She emphasized, in this context, the Moroccan strategy aimed at strengthening regional integration as an OTC (Originate, Transit, Certify) corridor, at the crossroads of Africa, Europe, and the Atlantic in energy matters.
Furthermore, the minister reminded that Morocco, which has exceeded its initial target of 42% installed capacity in renewable energies in its energy mix, now aims for 52% before 2030, specifying that annual investments in the sector have tripled and those dedicated to electrical networks have multiplied by five.
In the field of green hydrogen, Ms. Benali indicated that the Kingdom adopts a gradual approach, relying on a regulatory framework favorable to international investors and on suitable infrastructures. Several international consortiums have already expressed their interest in developing this strategic sector, she stated.
The MSC-2025, a high-level platform dedicated to the main challenges in foreign policy and international security, opened on Friday in the Bavarian capital, in the presence of German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as well as several heads of state and government, diplomats, political leaders, and experts representing nearly 110 countries.
The main program of the MSC 2025, which takes place from February 14 to 16, 2025, focuses on global security challenges, including global governance, democratic resilience, and climate security. It also addresses the state of the international order, regional conflicts and crises, as well as the role of Europe in the world.
