The recent rise in energy prices, amidst geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, reignites the debate on global energy security. In light of this situation, the United Nations calls for accelerated development of renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

In a recent analysis, the UN emphasizes that current fluctuations in oil and gas markets highlight the vulnerability of the global energy model. Disruptions in supply chains and uncertainties related to the geopolitical situation increase risks for economies reliant on fossil fuels.

UN officials highlight the strategic role of renewable energies in this context. They assert that sources such as solar and wind provide greater energy autonomy, as they are less exposed to the caprices of international markets and tensions along trade routes.

Beyond supply security, the development of clean energy also presents economic and environmental benefits. It helps reduce long-term costs, fosters job creation, and contributes to improved air quality.

The United Nations further reminds us that the energy transition is already underway globally. Renewable energies now account for an increasing share of electricity production, surpassing coal in some countries, while investments in this sector continue to grow.

In this context, the international organization stresses the need to intensify efforts towards a more sustainable energy model, capable of addressing current economic, environmental, and geopolitical challenges.
