In response to the rapid population growth in the city of Zemamra (Sidi Bennour province), the Autonomous Intercommunal Authority for Water, Electricity Distribution, and Liquid Waste Management of El Jadida and Sidi Bennour provinces (RADEEJ) has decided to launch a project to expand the wastewater treatment plant in the city to meet the growing needs of the population.
This project, with a total cost of approximately 25 million dirhams, aims to enhance the plant’s capacity so that it can treat about 3,250 cubic meters of wastewater per day, benefiting an estimated population of around 42,500 people, RADEEJ explained in a statement.
In response to current requirements, the plant, in its new version, will undergo a change in treatment technology, moving from natural lagooning treatment technology to what is called aerated lagoon treatment technology.
This involves a pre-treatment, secondary treatment through natural lagooning via aeration basins, tertiary treatment, and solar drying of the sludge, the same source details.
The new technology will help increase the plant’s performance and treatment efficiency, thereby improving the quality of life for residents and reducing the environmental impact resulting from wastewater discharges.
It should be noted that the expansion work began in December of last year and is expected to be completed by the end of the current year.
