The production of electric energy at the national level closed the year 2025 with an acceleration in its growth, registering a 5% increase, compared to a 3% improvement the previous year, according to the Directorate of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
This increase is attributed to the consolidation of private electricity production (+7%), production from the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) (+4.2%), and, to a lesser extent, the increase in contributions from national third parties by 50.9%, the DEPF explains in its recent economic note.
Regarding net energy demand, growth rose from +3.9% at the end of 2024 to +7.3% at the end of 2025, the same source indicates.
In this context, the volume of imported electric energy increased by 34.8% in 2025, following a 25.3% rise the previous year.
As for exported volume, it decreased by 44.2%, after a 22.9% decline last year.
