The South Korean company LG Energy Solution (LGES) could choose Morocco for the production of LFP cathodes intended for the European market. Currently, the company is in discussions with about three Chinese suppliers to produce electric vehicle (EV) batteries at a lower cost for Europe, according to a senior executive interviewed by Reuters.

This initiative comes as Europe imposes additional tariffs on electric vehicles made in China. “We are in discussions with Chinese companies to develop LFP cathodes with us and produce them for Europe,” said Wonjoon Suh, head of the advanced automotive battery division at LGES, while declining to name these companies.

LGES is also considering the creation of joint ventures and signing long-term supply agreements. Mr. Suh mentioned that LGES is looking at three potential sites for LFP cathode production with Chinese partners, namely Morocco, Finland, and Indonesia, to serve the European market.
