Morocco ranks first in the World Immunity Index 2026, an international ranking dedicated to living conditions favorable to immune health. The study, published by the British company Nature’s Best, analyzes 30 of the most visited destinations in the world.
With a score of 63.4 out of 80, the Kingdom surpasses India (54.2 points) and South Africa (53.7 points), while Tunisia and Egypt complete the top five. Several industrialized countries appear far behind in the rankings, such as the United Kingdom, which is ranked 28th.
An Index Based on Living Conditions
The World Immunity Index does not measure immunity in the strict medical sense. It relies on several environmental and behavioral indicators that can influence immune resistance.
The analysis aggregates eight criteria drawn from public health data, climate records, and online search trends. Among the factors considered are air pollution levels, average temperatures, rainfall, as well as rates of smoking, obesity, and hospitalizations related to alcohol consumption.
The study also examines research related to humidity and mold, two elements often associated with respiratory diseases.
Favorable Climatic Conditions
In the case of Morocco, several factors explain this ranking. The country enjoys a relatively dry climate, with limited rainfall in recent years, which reduces the risks of humidity in homes and the proliferation of mold.
Air pollution levels also remain more moderate than in many industrialized economies.
Additionally, there are generally lower rates of alcohol and tobacco consumption, factors that scientific studies often associate with better immune health.
Persistent Health Challenges
However, this performance should be tempered by certain public health indicators. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 53% of Moroccan adults are overweight and nearly 20% suffer from obesity.
Moreover, daily smoking affects about 13.8% of the adult population, with a strong prevalence among men, which increases long-term risks of chronic diseases.
Recommendations from the Study
The report finally emphasizes that immune health primarily depends on lifestyle. Recommendations include improving sleep quality, adopting a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, engaging in regular physical activity, and managing stress.
The study also underscores the importance of adequate intake of vitamins and minerals, while reminding that dietary supplements cannot replace a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
