Gotion High-Tech, a Sino-European group, has chosen to establish its gigafactory in Kenitra, Morocco, despite more attractive offers from other countries. According to Mohcine Jazouli, the Minister of Investment, the decision was influenced by Morocco’s economic and political stability, a young workforce, and continuously developing infrastructure. Affordable renewable energy and Morocco’s numerous free trade agreements also played a crucial role. The factory, which will be five times larger than Renault’s, is expected to be operational by June 2026, with an initial capacity of 20 GWh, expandable to 100 GWh. All production will be destined for export, generating a volume of $20 billion at full capacity.

The Gotion High-Tech gigafactory represents an investment of 12.8 billion dirhams and is expected to create 17,000 direct and indirect jobs, including 2,300 highly qualified positions. This project aligns with King Mohammed VI’s vision of making Morocco an industrial hub for electric mobility, thus aligning the country’s ambitions with global trends in energy transition and sustainable development.
