Morocco occupies a central position in the global ranking for sustainable competitiveness. This is revealed in the 2025 edition of the Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index (GSCI), an international index published by the think tank SolAbility that assesses countries’ ability to generate long-term prosperity while preserving their natural resources and social cohesion.
In this ranking of 192 countries, the Kingdom is positioned at 84th place with a score of approximately 46.8 points, placing it in the global average. The index relies on nearly 190 indicators and analyzes several dimensions of sustainable development, including natural capital, resource efficiency, governance, economic sustainability, as well as social and intellectual capital.
The study highlights certain progress made by Morocco, particularly in the fields of intellectual capital and innovation. This pillar encompasses the quality of education, knowledge production, and the capacity of economies to support research and new technologies. The Kingdom’s performance in this area reflects the efforts made in recent years to strengthen the knowledge economy and support the emergence of new technological sectors.
At the same time, the report notes that several structural challenges persist. Morocco continues to face significant pressure on its natural resources, especially water, in a climate context marked by an increase in drought episodes. Sustainable resource management and improving energy efficiency thus emerge as major priorities to solidify the country’s development trajectory.
Despite these constraints, the overall trend remains positive. Public policies implemented in recent years, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, climate adaptation, and economic modernization, are gradually contributing to reinforcing the foundations of a more sustainable development model.
Through this evolution, Morocco continues its transition toward a more resilient economy capable of combining economic growth, innovation, and long-term resource preservation.
