A new heavyweight player is about to make its entrance into the Moroccan electric mobility market. The company **Blu EV**, founded by Egyptian billionaire **Naguib Sawiris**, has announced an **investment of 100 million dollars** – nearly 900 million dirhams – to launch an **operation to convert gasoline motorcycles into electric motorcycles** in Morocco. This marks the company’s **first international foray**, which plans to start its activities in the Kingdom **by the end of 2025**.
### An ambitious project led by a tech heavyweight
It is **Reda Baalbaki**, co-founder and CEO of Blu EV, who unveiled this project in a statement to **Asharq Business**. The company, chaired by **Sawiris**, considered the **7th richest person in Africa**, aims for a **gradual deployment throughout the MENA region**, with Morocco as a **strategic foothold**.
In Egypt, Blu EV is already well-established, with a presence in several major cities such as **Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, and El Gouna**, and **more than 50 battery replacement stations** already in operation. A **massive expansion is expected in Greater Cairo** in 2025, with the ambition to cover the entire Egyptian territory within five years.
### A niche still underexploited in Morocco
Unlike most Moroccan initiatives in sustainable mobility, which have so far focused on the **electric passenger vehicle**, Blu EV is betting on a **still underdeveloped segment**: the **electric motorcycle**. This positioning could prove strategic in a country where **two-wheelers are ubiquitous**, especially in urban and peri-urban areas.
Blu EV’s project should thus help to **green a motorcycle fleet that is still largely thermal**, while reducing **local CO₂ emissions** and **modernizing individual transport practices**.

This announcement confirms an underlying trend: Morocco is increasingly attracting foreign players in the **clean technologies** and **sustainable mobility** sectors.
