The green hydrogen project of Chbika, one of the most ambitious in the Kingdom, is entering a new phase of realization. On Monday, June 30, **the delegated minister in charge of Investment, Karim Zidane, chaired the sixth meeting of the follow-up committee** for the preliminary land reservation contract, thus sealing a strategic milestone in the project’s territorial anchoring.

This meeting, attended by all relevant public parties, including **the MASEN Agency**, aimed to take stock of the progress of the project led by a heavyweight consortium: **TotalEnergies, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), and A.P. Moller Capital**. Objective achieved: **the expected deliverables were validated on time**, a sign of effective coordination and a controlled timeline.

A clear push towards operational status

The stakes go far beyond the administrative aspect. By securing the land issue, the Moroccan authorities **accelerate the transition to the advanced studies phase**, which is the foundation for future technical and legal steps. There is a clear determination not to waste time in a **global race for green hydrogen** that is becoming increasingly competitive.

This project perfectly illustrates **the Moroccan model of structuring public-private partnership**, which is both attractive to international investors and concerned with sustainable local anchoring. The ambition is clear: **to make Chbika an industrial reference in the energy landscape of southern Morocco**.

A pioneering project in the “Morocco Offer”

Located in the **Guelmim-Oued Noun** region, near the Atlantic Ocean, **Chbika is the very first project activated under the “Morocco Offer for green hydrogen”**. Launched during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit in October 2024, the project plans for **1 GW of solar and wind capacity**, powering an electrolysis unit operating from **desalinated seawater**.

Ultimately, the facility aims to **produce 200,000 tons per year of green ammonia**, primarily intended for export to Europe, in a context of accelerated energy transition on the continent.

But Chbika’s ambition goes beyond just energy production: **the project also includes a dedicated port and logistics infrastructure**, in a logic of complete vertical integration, designed to meet very large-scale industrial standards.

A national strategy focused on the future

Launched as part of a broader program, **mobilizing 300,000 hectares in the southern provinces**, the project is part of an ambitious energy strategy. This strategy aims for **20 GW of renewable capacities**, including **10 GW of electrolysis** and up to **8 million tons of green hydrogen derivatives**.

**Morocco thus intends to position itself as a pivotal energy platform between Europe and Africa**, capitalizing on its solar and wind potential, institutional stability, and attractiveness to major global operators.

With Chbika, **the Kingdom is crossing a symbolic but structuring milestone**, marking its transition from a model of potential to one of concrete realization.
