The British company Sound Energy, already active in gas exploration in Morocco, has just taken a new step in its energy diversification. In partnership with the geoscience company Getech, it has completed a regional prospecting study that reveals several areas with high potential for natural hydrogen and helium on Moroccan territory.

Conducted under an agreement signed in October 2024, this study used advanced geological technologies to map favorable conditions for the underground accumulation of these strategic gases. The results are considered very encouraging by both partners, who are now considering the creation of a joint venture with exclusive rights to continue research, conduct detailed geophysical surveys, and then launch exploratory drilling.

According to John Argent, Vice President of Sound Energy in charge of geoscience, these discoveries fully validate the group’s methodical approach and confirm the growing interest in natural hydrogen, an emerging resource with high energy potential.

Already established in the Oriental region through its liquefied natural gas activities, Sound Energy now intends to incorporate this new direction into its long-term strategy. The exploration of natural hydrogen and helium, still underdeveloped in Morocco, could help position the Kingdom as a key player in the global energy transition.
