Speaking at the opening of the third edition of the PAGE Green Crossroads Conference (The Partnership for Action on Green Economy), Mr. Hachlaf emphasized that Morocco, in accordance with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is committed to implementing a “voluntary and ambitious” vision that places sustainability issues at the center of its development policy.
In this regard, Morocco is working to adapt its legislative and regulatory framework to the requirements of the business climate, promoting transparency, access to information on investment opportunities, and simplifying administrative procedures, the official noted.
Taking the floor, the representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Morocco, Sanae Lahlou, noted that joint efforts with various concerned ministries, the private sector, and technical and financial partners allow for the co-construction of innovative solutions, tailored to the national context, but also replicable in other African countries.
In this vein, Ms. Lahlou supported her remarks with concrete examples of this collaboration, including support for the revision of the National Sustainable Development Strategy, the establishment of the Moroccan Coalition for Sustainable Energy Access with the support of MASEN, as well as multi-stakeholder dialogues and South-South exchanges.
For her part, the head of the economic competitiveness, environment, and infrastructure section at the European Union (EU) delegation in Morocco, Matilde Ceravolo, praised the spirit of partnership that unites Morocco and the EU in the field of green and inclusive transition, all within a framework promoting values of sustainability, carbon neutrality, and mutual commitment.
“Our work is to build bridges, not just physical ones but especially human and institutional ones,” Ms. Ceravolo stated.
Morocco is particularly well-positioned to become a key player in this green transition, thanks to its natural resources, political stability, and strategic vision, she argued.
For his part, the Director General of Industry at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Youssef Fadil, considered this event a valuable opportunity to discuss and highlight concrete and innovative solutions for a green, fair, and inclusive transition.
In Morocco, this transition is already underway, driven by a dynamic of constant strengthening, while respecting ecological balances, Mr. Fadil pointed out, noting that it is now an essential pillar of new approaches to sustainable development, wealth creation, and sustainable employment.
The proceedings of the third edition of the PAGE Green Crossroads Conference are part of the Green Synergy Week, an initiative under the auspices of the United Nations aimed at accelerating the transition to inclusive, low-carbon, and circular economies across the African continent.
This event, which continues until Tuesday, is jointly organized by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and UNIDO – the leading UN agency in Morocco for the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) program.
In the form of a coalition including UNIDO, UNEP, UNDP, ILO, and UNITAR, the PAGE Program supports efforts towards a transition to green and equitable economies across the African continent.
Throughout the week, various participants will focus on how green policies can create jobs, support just transitions, and enhance regional resilience to climate and economic shocks. Emphasis will be placed on the role of South-South and triangular cooperation, as well as on financial innovation in the large-scale deployment of successful initiatives across the continent.
