The Moroccan Confederation of Industrial Pelagic Fishermen (COMAIP) held a meeting of its governing bodies on Tuesday, January 7, marking a new step in its commitment to sustainability and socio-economic development in the Dakhla-Oued-Eddahab region.

During this meeting, members discussed the follow-up on commitments made with the unanimous adoption of an ethical charter in September 2024, aimed at promoting responsible fishing. They also addressed the growing role of the industrial ecosystem in job creation, particularly for youth, thus contributing to the local socio-economic dynamics.

    ### Creation of a Working Group for a Strategic Roadmap

In order to address current challenges, the commission decided to establish an ad hoc working group. This team will be responsible for developing a strategic roadmap that reconciles economic efficiency with positive social impact. It will propose concrete actions to strengthen the contribution of the industrial ecosystem to the sustainable development of the region.

    ### Analysis of the Impacts of the CJEU Decision

One of the key points of this meeting was the examination of a strategic report prepared by the commission in charge of strategy. This report analyzes the potential repercussions of the decision made by the European Court of Justice (CJEU) on October 4, 2024, on economic activities in the Dakhla area. COMAIP members studied several scenarios and formulated recommendations to be submitted to public authorities to anticipate and mitigate potential impacts.

    ### A Renewed Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

In his speech, Mr. Mohamed Lamine Hormatollah, President of COMAIP, emphasized:

“Fishermen and industrialists of the pelagic sector in Dakhla remain determined to contribute to the socio-economic development of the region while addressing sustainability challenges and regulatory changes, particularly those related to the European Union.”

Members also reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Royal vision of a prosperous and environmentally respectful Africa-Atlantic front, thus consolidating their role as key players in sustainable development.
