Abu Dhabi – The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and the government of Rwanda have signed a loan agreement worth approximately 25 million dollars to finance the expansion of the water transmission and distribution systems of the Karenge water treatment plant, the Emirati news agency reported on Wednesday.

Signed by ADFD Director General Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi and the Rwandan ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, John Mirenge, this strategic agreement illustrates ADFD’s commitment to supporting development projects aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6, which aims to ensure access to clean and sustainable water.

This agreement reflects ADFD’s commitment to financing infrastructure projects that promote economic and social progress in beneficiary countries, Mr. Al Suwaidi stated on this occasion, emphasizing the Fund’s desire to strengthen and deepen the strategic partnership with the Republic of Rwanda in key sectors.

For his part, Mr. Mirenge expressed his pride in this cooperation with ADFD, which highlights the ongoing efforts of the United Arab Emirates to promote sustainable development on a global scale.

This project also includes the construction of a water treatment plant with a daily capacity of 36,000 cubic meters, as well as the expansion of transmission and distribution systems to key areas of the city of Karenge.
