On the sidelines of the Entrepreneurial Meeting Morocco-France (Strategic Future Sectors) organized during President Macron’s visit, MGH Energy, a French company specializing in the decarbonization of transport, and PETROM, a major player in the distribution of fuels and lubricants in Morocco, signed today a strategic protocol to unite their efforts to respond to Morocco’s Offer for Green Hydrogen. Their collaboration focuses on the development of the renewable synthetic fuel sector in Morocco, particularly the Janassim project which aims to produce 500,000 tons per year of decarbonized fuels for an investment of 51 billion dirhams. The signing took place in the presence of Madame Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance of Morocco, and Monsieur Antoine Armand, Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry of France.
Through this strategic partnership, the two companies aim to collaborate closely, sharing their respective expertise and conducting in-depth studies on the markets for renewable synthetic fuels, existing regulations, and production and distribution infrastructures. MGH Energy will bring its expertise in renewable energies, industrial project management, and transport decarbonization. For its part, PETROM will provide its strategic vision for the distribution and marketing of fuels in Morocco. This partnership also aims to enable PETROM to expand its product range by offering its customers sustainable fuels produced by the Janassim project.
Developed as part of Morocco’s Offer for Green Hydrogen, Janassim primarily aims to decarbonize maritime and air transport. This project is located in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, which has exceptional natural resource deposits (wind and sun). It will produce 500,000 tons per year of renewable synthetic fuels thanks to a capacity of 2.2 gigawatts of renewable energy. With an investment budget of 51 billion dirhams (4.8 billion euros), it will prevent the emission of 724,000 tons of CO2 per year. The commissioning of the first phase of Janassim is scheduled for 2030 when the Dakhla Atlantic port becomes operational.
Janassim aims to develop a real vertical and horizontal economy around its activity, thus integrating industrial development in the region, creating specialized training and degrees that meet new needs, and supporting agriculture and the local economy. Janassim will strengthen Morocco’s position as a leader in the energy transition and the green hydrogen sector and will be able to meet the decarbonization needs of transport.
