The strengthening of the national industrial ecosystem is necessary to ensure the success of the energy transition in Morocco, stated the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, on Tuesday in Marrakech.
Speaking during a ministerial panel organized as part of the 4th edition of the “World Power-to-X Summit,” Mr. Mezzour emphasized the importance of building a robust ecosystem capable of supporting the ambitious goals of integrating 30 to 40% renewable energies into the national energy mix.
In this context, the minister highlighted the significant potential of the energy transition to transform the economic landscape of the Kingdom, explaining that although industrial partners and investors are present and motivated, additional efforts are still needed to ensure optimal adaptation.
Mr. Mezzour also underscored the importance of leveraging local talents and capacities in the development of renewable energy projects, calling for raising awareness among investors about this “often underutilized” potential.
For the minister, the energy transition “should not be seen as an end in itself, but must also translate into the creation of quality jobs for the Moroccan population.”
“It is imperative that our energy ambition materializes into sustainable job opportunities,” he added, affirming that the ultimate goal is to convert energy production capacity into sustainable jobs.
The minister concluded by emphasizing the importance of establishing a value chain focused on local innovation, to ensure that the benefits of the energy transition benefit not only investors but also Moroccan citizens.
